Ever since I moved here from New York 7 years ago, our backyard is a little secret heaven of mine. I come here every day and to take the time to reflect and think.
I usually sit in front of my computer for a very long long time for the nature of my work. For example, these days I’ve been too focused on the Pinkoi projects and forgot to take a break. When there’s time like this, I would simply walk to the backyard and let sunshine cleans the mud from my head and take a breath.
It’s usually a bit cold in the morning, however, later at afternoon when the sun came out, I’ll be able to walk around, hear the whisper of the wind and pick up brown leaves and fallen branches. Sometimes I can even hear the distant ting ting of wind chimes from some neighbor’s house and cows mooing on the hillside behind our neighborhood. It’s a nice peaceful moment for me between my work.
Sometimes I spent a little more time in the backyard to create interesting handmade garden art with daily objects that I could find around me. Sometimes I would do some weird experiments, for example, leaf-cutting. These are all various ways of mine to enjoy the simplicity and beauty of every life and to relieve my overwhelming anxiety.
Fortunately, Wayne always thinks they are cool in some ways and never throw them out. He even has one or two glass jars to collect my leaf-cutting creations. ; )
In the picture above is one of my strange handmade garden art that Wayne and I made last year. We used a broken toilet tank and an empty humming bird nest on a dry branch with sprouts (humming birds already moved out long time ago of course).
Scrub Jays, Hummingbirds and Sparrows are the most common visitors in our backyard (heh, I learned all these when I wrote my Chic Parody blog), and Squirrels too of course although Inari doesn’t like them and will chase them around.
From time to time I discovered new plants here and tried to figure out what they are. Take this one for example ↑ ↓, I have no idea what they are but their buds and radial flowers look very interesting to me. Anyone knows what they are?
Nature offers such a wide variety of wonderful patterns and designs and those inspire me every day. That’s why I love to go to the backyard for adventures so much! Besides, I get to stare at the same sky and space out with Wayne together. How nice is that!? ; )
