隨心所欲過生日-獨角獸&作菜趴踢吃吃吃 / A Celebration of Unicorn & Yummy Homemade Food

I turned 31 last week and this year, unlike every other year, I decided to celebrate my birthday in a weird… or I should say a very… my own way (according to my close friends).

I had a celebration of ‘Unicorn’ and yummy homemade food this year.  Basically it’s a small ‘Bake-My-Favorite-Yummy-Food’ party, just 4 of us (including my dog Inari) stayed cozy at home, baked and ate, baked and ate, baked and ate… Uh?  Weird?  Well, it’s my birthday after all so I got to do what I like!  : P

上星期我渡過了一個奇妙的 31 歲生日,雖說是奇妙,但友人事後評論其實很有我的風格,噗哧。

今年我突然決定要當一隻獨角獸壽星,和家人一起以「做壽星愛吃的美食趴踢」,隨心所欲的渡過我的生日,於是我們四個 (包括 Inari) 就很舒適地待在家裡,不停的作菜、吃光、作菜、吃光、作菜、吃光、作菜、吃光… 很奇怪嗎?哎喲,畢竟是我的生日嘛,就是要做喜歡的事情才算慶祝!XD

My birthday this year started with a unicorn headband… and I ended up wearing it all day.  Of course I wasn’t going to dress like a real unicorn (I’ll leave it for Halloween) so I prepared a set of my regular comfy clothing, otherwise it’s gonna be hard for me to cook.

我今年的生日,從一只獨角獸髮箍開始 (才能當獨角獸壽星嘛)… 然後我準備了一套舒適的衣服與飾品來搭配。我當然沒有要全身徹底地扮裝成一隻獨角獸 (那應該留到明年的萬聖節才對),不然待會兒要進行的生日作菜趴踢可能就會難度太高,為了美食總是要有點犧牲。

I also prepared a box of my favorite plain truffles from La Maison du Chocolat as usual to treat myself and officially kick start the day.  La Maison du Chocolat is my personal favorite chocolate boutique.  Its Caracas (hot cocoa but dark & creamy – I love that flavor) and Lady M’s Mille Crêpes were basically my mood savers when I was still in New York.

Luckily La Maison du Chocolat had a free shipping week prior to my birthday so I excitedly ordered a ‘heavier’ box in advance this time (like 0.88 lb).  I figured I’ve done a lot this past year so it should be fine for me to treat myself with more truffles… : P

然後貪嘴的我,也幫自己準備了一盒最愛的 La Maison du Chocolat 純松露巧克力,來善待自己、並正式開始我的生日。La Maison du Chocolat 是我個人目前最喜歡的巧克力精品店,自從八年前嘗試過後,我對於其他品牌的巧克力就有些食不知味 (低頭)。它的熱巧克力 Caracas 既苦又濃,微甜的口感伴隨著濃郁香氣和天然的可可亞酸味,巧克力的純度極高,我非常非常喜歡。當我還在紐約時,La Maison du Chocolat 的熱巧克力和 Lady M的Mille Crêpes 一直是我的心情救星。

幸福的是,La Maison du Chocolat 剛好在我生日前有免運費的優惠,所以我欣喜若狂地的訂購了一盒比往年都還更重些的純松露巧克力 (0.88 磅) 來獎勵自己,畢竟我覺得自己去年好像做了很多事情,這麼辛苦的話,應該可以吃更多松露巧克力吧…(幫自己找的貪吃藉口)  : P

Then the small ‘Bake-My-Favorite-Yummy-Food’ party started.

W made his signature dessert-Homemade Flan / Crème caramel; I made my own favorite food of the year (it changes every year so…)-Spicy Buffalo Chicken Wings while V and Inari helped out other things together.  Since I knew it’s going to be a ‘long’ party (like a lot of baking and eating), only Flan and Buffalo Wings might not be enough even though I prepared a huge 10lb bag of wings.   So I also made many many Sweet Cheese Rolls, flaky puffy pastry sheet wraps filled with lots of cream cheese filling yummy yummy!

於是「做壽星愛吃的美食趴踢」就很隨性的開始了!沒辦法因為壽星就很隨性啦~

大王做他最拿手的 Flan 法式/西式雞蛋布丁;我自然是烤起自己的最愛 (今年的最愛) -Buffalo Chicken Wings 水牛城辣雞翅。然後 V & Inari 則是負責其他周邊事項。既然我知道這個慶生/作菜趴踢會持續一整天,只有這兩樣大概也不夠吃,雖然我其實準備了 10 磅的雞翅 (約 4.5 公斤)。因此我還另外做了很多自己一直以來都想嘗試的 Sweet Cheese Rolls 甜起司捲,基本上就是把層層既薄又酥脆的外皮,捲起自己買來再加工過的奶油乳酪,然後再塗上蛋汁、灑上粗糖顆粒,烤好就可以趁熱吃嘍~ 嗯 好吃好吃!

2012 was a year filled with laughter and tears, with lots of lessons learned in between.  My family and friends, thank you so much being a part of my life, especially W, thank you for all the support — and I can’t wait to share everything with you next year : )

If you’re a November baby like me, you know that we are the coolest bunch out there right? Hahaha!  November rocks, and so do you!  Cake for everyone!

我的 2012 一整年充滿了歡笑與淚水,還有很多新學到的人生課題/練習題。在這裡我想趁機謝謝所有出現在我生命裡的、親愛的家人與朋友們,謝謝你們和我一起渡過這個充滿了挑戰性的一年。特別是大王,謝謝你總是給我那一份無窮無盡的支持 — 我也等不及要繼續與你分享新的一年了   : )

最後,當然是… 11月生的寶寶萬歲,哈!
